How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign is extremely easy to use, with clear, custom made aligners worn for 20-22 hours per day to gently and gradually move the positions of your teeth and straighten your smile. It blends seamlessly into your life, needing no changes to your diet or lifestyle as the aligners are able to be removed to enable you to eat, drink and brush your teeth.

Invisalign is incredibly comfortable, with no metal wires or brackets able to irritate your mouth or cause you pain. It uses innovative digital dental technology throughout your treatment, creating incredibly accurate and snug aligners that are unable to be seen in your mouth, boosting your confidence as you wear them.

what does the treatment involve?

At your consultation appointment, we examine your teeth and ask you about your ideal results. We discuss Invisalign treatment in detail, give you the opportunity to ask any questions, and take digital 3D scans and images of your teeth.

We formulate your treatment plan, using our innovative digital technology to ensure accuracy and precision. We can even show you a preview of how your smile will look and use specialist ClinCheck software to show you exactly how your teeth will move.

During your treatment, you wear each aligner in the series for 1-2 weeks, moving your teeth little by little each time. The aligners control the amount and timing of movement based on your bespoke treatment plan. We keep an eye on your progress at regular appointments in practice and make sure you are happy with your treatment.

Once you have worn your last aligner, your treatment is complete! We fit you with a final retainer to keep your teeth in their new positions for the long term and leave you to enjoy your new smile.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Will Invisalign affect my speech?

You may find it takes a few days to get used to the aligners, and may have a slight lisp at first, but you should be talking clearly and confidently before long.

  • Are the aligners comfortable?

Yes, Invisalign aligners have been designed with comfort in mind, enabling you to easily wear them for up to 22 hours a day. They fit snugly over the teeth and have no metal brackets or wires to irritate the skin.

  • What are Invisalign aligners made of?

The Invisalign aligners are made from strong medical grade thermoplastic material, which has been uniquely developed for the Invisalign system.

  • What should I do if I lose an aligner?

If you lose one of your aligners, please contact us as soon as possible for further advice. In the meantime, you can wear an aligner from your previous set to prevent your teeth from moving too far out of line. We may also advise that you move straight onto your next set of aligners, depending on your individual case.

  • Is Invisalign treatment painful?

Invisalign has been designed to be comfortable, and a completely different experience from traditional metal fixed braces. The clear aligners are precise and accurate, fitting snugly over your teeth for a secure and confident fit. Invisalign is not painful, but you might experience some slight soreness as your teeth begin to move.

  • How long will my Invisalign treatment take?

The length of your Invisalign treatment depends on your individual case, but most are completed in 9-18 months. We will advise you of the time you can expect your treatment to take at your initial consultation.

  • Why do I need to wear a retainer?

It is very important to wear a retainer following orthodontic treatment, and it is seen as the final stage in your teeth straightening journey. Without retention, your teeth try to move back to their original positions, undoing all the progress you have made with Invisalign. We advise you wear your retainer on a part time basis, such as overnight, for as long as you wish your teeth to stay straight.
